The interstellar comet 3I/Atlas, traveling at a record-breaking 38 miles per second, completed its closest approach to the Sun last week, maintaining a distance of 127 million miles from our star. At 5-7 billion years old, the ancient visitor predates the Solar System itself and formed near the center of the Milky Way, giving it unique composition unlike comets originating within our planetary system. In December, NASA’s Clipper probe will make history by passing through the comet’s tail during its journey to Jupiter’s moon Europa, enabling the first-ever collection and analysis of interstellar material, astronomer Emerson Roberto Perez told Agora CNN.
